We plan to build Protected Bike Lanes on Fauntleroy Way SW and SW Wildwood Pl as one of our first Fatal Crash Response projects. Before we can start construction, though, we need to perform a what coach test.

What are we doing?

  • We will perform a coach test (with King County Metro buses) to determine that there will be no conflicts between the proposed bike lane configuration and the bus movements along SW Wildwood and Fauntleroy Way SW.

When are we doing this work?

  • Monday, October 19, 2026 between 10am until 2pm
***We may reschedule this work if there is rain in the weather forecast.
    • You will not be able to park at the Fauntleroy and Wildwood intersection, and certain driveways in the area may be temporarily closed while we perform this test.

Why?

  • The street has been patched with asphalt and smoothed with a rubber sealant in the larger cracks over the last month. Now that the riding and driving surface is smoother, we need to be certain that buses can travel on the street with how we have designed the bike lanes. After we complete this test, we will share the details of it with you here and via our email updates, and then we can proceed with building the new bike infrastructure.

Project Overview

This project is part of Seattle's Vision Zero program. With this program, we aim to end traffic deaths and serious injuries.

This project aims to improve safety for all travelers on Fauntleroy Way SW and SW Wildwood Pl, including those walking, rolling, biking, taking the bus, and driving.

For this project, the community has let us know their concerns for safety. To give peopel biking and driving separation, we are evaluating two options:

Option 1:

  • A protected bike lane for uphill/southbound bikes
  • A street lane bikes and cars share in the northbound direction

Option 2:

  • Two protected bike lanes on either side of SW Wildwood Pl for uphill and downhill (i.e., northbound and southbound) bikes

Timeline/Schedule

We've already removed parking along Fauntleroy Way SW and SW Wildwood Pl between Fauntleroy Way SW and 46th Ave SW.

Before the end of 2026, we plan to:

  • Install a Protected Bike Lane
  • Relocate Load Zones at 45th Ave SW and SW Wildwood Pl
  • Relocate Passenger Drop Off locations south of the Ferry Terminal
