2026 construction

In 2026, WSDOT has conducted long-term lane reductions on northbound I-5 across the Ship Canal Bridge and several weekend closures of northbound I-5.

Here’s what's coming up:

  • As early as October 30-November 2: A full weekend closure of northbound I-5, from I-90 to NE 45th St, to remove the work zone (marking the end of major Revive I-5 work for 2026).
  • Please note: this full weekend closure for work zone removal is weather-dependent. Crews need dry weather to re-stripe lanes. That means if the weather is too rainy, WSDOT will generally reschedule work to a later weekend.
  • You can expect some additional overnight work on I-5 and the express lanes as crews continue bridge maintenance and drainage improvements on the underside of the Ship Canal Bridge.

Future Work in 2027

Additional construction will take place in 2027 with long-term lane closures planned on southbound I-5 across the Ship Canal Bridge. Please stay tuned for additional information about construction in 2027 as it becomes available.

Getting around

While travel will be challenging during construction, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  • Ride transit – it’s the best, most reliable way to get around. Youth 18 and under ride free!
  • Stay informed, leave extra travel time, and check conditions before you head out.
  • Consider traveling outside of peak travel times if you can.
  • Learn about all your travel options in the Seattle area by visiting FlipYourTrip.org.

Seattle is a great place to live, work, and play. We encourage you to continue to enjoy the city’s many cultural attractions, parks, local shops, sports games, concerts, shopping, and more.
