Tree Walks

What is a Tree Walk?

Seattle Public Utilities' Trees for Neighborhoods offers over 40 self-guided Tree Walks throughout Seattle neighborhoods. Created in partnership with volunteers and community groups, these Walks celebrate the conifer wonderland of winter, the brilliance of spring blooms, the shady fullness of summer, and the bountiful color of fall. No matter the season, trees in Seattle are fascinating to explore. Learn about each tree's name, unique characteristics, history, cultural importance and more.

Where can I find Tree Walks?

The Tree Walk Experience holds  walks of various length, tree species composition, and locations across Seattle. These web maps, designed to be used on a mobile device as you walk, host photos and information about each tree. They are also fun to explore from the comfort of home!

The Trees for Neighborhoods program hosts in-person Tree Walks that are guided by volunteers and staff. Dates and times of upcoming Tree Walks are available on our Events page

Featured Walk: Seattle Waterfront Walks

In September 2025, the grand opening of the Seattle Waterfront heralded a new era for an iconic Seattle place. In celebration of this new community space, created after the removal of the Alaskan Way Viaduct, volunteers and staff created 2 new Waterfront Tree Walks. One, a ten tree Short Loop created in partnership with the Seattle Aquarium, is perfect for families. The longer Waterfront Tree Walk spans from Pike Place Market down to Habitat Beach and highlights the incredible trees, green stormwater infrastucture, and environmental ingenuity of this space.
